Rakuten Mobile Changes Termination Fee Policy for Early Contract Cancellations

On March 7, Rakuten Mobile announced a change in its termination fee policy for contract cancellations. Starting April 1, customers who sign up for a line and begin using it on or after that date will be charged a termination fee if they cancel or terminate their contract within one year.

The termination fee will be equivalent to one month’s minimum usage fee for the subscribed plan, with a maximum charge of 1,078 yen (tax included). The affected plans include:

  • Rakuten Saikyo Plan
  • Rakuten Saikyo Plan (Data Type)
  • Apple Watch Family Sharing

Rakuten Mobile reported that it achieved positive EBITDA on a monthly basis in December 2024 and announced in February 2025 that it had reached 8.5 million subscribers.

Additionally, with this policy change, Rakuten Mobile will integrate and discontinue the termination fee policy introduced in February 2024, which charged fees for unused lines.
